What Is Deadlock Anti-Cheat (VAC)?
VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) is the automated system Valve uses to detect cheat software running alongside Deadlock. It works quietly in the background on official matchmaking servers, scanning for known cheat signatures and suspicious system behavior without interrupting gameplay.
VAC does not ban instantly. Instead, it flags accounts and issues bans in delayed batches — commonly called "VAC waves" — which is why a cheat can appear to "work" for a period before detection catches up. Deadlock's anti-cheat can even flag deadlock cheaters mid-match: during early playtesting Valve added a system that lets the lobby choose between banning a detected cheater immediately or letting them finish the round before the ban lands, so detection is very much a live, active process rather than a silent overnight sweep.
How Cheat Detection Works in Deadlock
Understanding how deadlock cheats enabled in a session actually get flagged also means understanding how detection works, since the two are directly connected. Deadlock cheat detection generally relies on three methods:
1. Signature-Based Detection
VAC scans running processes and memory for known code patterns belonging to public or leaked cheats. This is why free, widely distributed cheats get detected quickly — their signatures are already in VAC's database.
2. Behavioral Detection
Beyond signatures, Deadlock's anti-cheat also looks at behavior: impossible flick speeds, inhuman reaction times, ability usage patterns, or movement across zip-lines and rooftops that doesn't match normal human input can trigger review, even without a known signature match.
3. In-Game Reports & Manual Review
Deadlock also ships a built-in cheat report option, available both in-game and after the match ends, so suspicious deadlock cheaters can be flagged by teammates and opponents for manual review — adding a human layer on top of automated VAC scanning.
Why Players Get Banned in Deadlock
Understanding the common causes can help explain how players get banned in Deadlock:
Using Outdated Or Public Cheats
The single biggest cause of bans is running a cheat that hasn't been updated since the last Deadlock patch. Public, free cheats are reverse-engineered and signature-flagged the fastest.
Using A Non-Stream-Proof Cheat
Streaming or recording with a cheat overlay visible on screen is one of the most common ways players get manually reported and reviewed. Stream-proof mode is designed to limit overlay visibility in OBS and Streamlabs, but you should always test your own setup before streaming.
Account & License Sharing
Sharing a cheat license or Steam account across multiple people increases exposure and the chance of inconsistent, flaggable behavior patterns on one account.
Want a cheat with frequent maintenance? Our Deadlock cheats package includes stream-proof mode and is typically updated within 2–4 hours of every Deadlock patch.
Deadlock Console Commands Every Player Should Know
Deadlock's developer console is where a lot of advanced deadlock commands live — performance tweaks, connection diagnostics, and lobby settings that don't appear anywhere in the standard menu.
- Open the console — add
-console(or-dev) to Deadlock's launch options in Steam, then press the tilde (~) key or F7 in-game to bring it up. - sv_cheats 1 unlocks experimental deadlock commands like adjusted movement speed or unlimited items, but it only functions inside a private Custom Match — it will not run in Ranked or Unranked queues.
- "Enable Cheats" lobby toggle — when hosting a private Custom Match, hosts can flip a dedicated setting to allow deadlock cheats enabled for that lobby only, which is the one sanctioned way to test cheat commands in an official Valve environment.
- Never run sv_cheats or unfamiliar deadlock console commands in a public match. The anti-cheat automatically flags cheat commands used outside private lobbies, even by accident, and it can trigger a temporary match ban.
Looking for something more powerful than console tweaks? Console commands like sv_cheats are locked to
private Custom Match lobbies — the moment you queue into Ranked or Unranked, they stop working entirely. Our
Deadlock cheats package is built differently: the full Hero ESP, jungle timer and item
build recommendation loader run across every game mode — Ranked, Unranked and Custom Match alike — not just
private lobbies with friends. That is the real advantage over console tweaks: a premium feature set that goes with you
wherever you actually play, including public competitive matches, instead of staying boxed into a sandboxed lobby.
